I have some statistics for you again today to show you why you really should make your website mobile friendly. I knew that more people surf with mobile devices (phones & tablets) nowadays. This happened gradually, by the end of 2014 the tipping point was reached, and then breached in favour of mobiles. Since both Google & Facebook give me information on what device their ads are shown, and I have run a few Facebook ads and Google ads over the last 2 months I can now share the results with you on mobile visitors versus PC visitors.
So far for the Facebook stats.
I must say I was quite surprised with the differences. Depending on your interested audience this should make you consider a few things. And you may argue that these are the Facebook stats, which has a young audience and an app for the phone so people will use their phone more to check facebook than the web, so these stats may be distorted.
So let’s look at Google, shall we?
The statistics for the Google ad are for the last complete month. Targeted at all age groups, genders with an interest in Art. Twice as much mobile reach as PC reach. Pretty convincing…
So. In case you don’t have a responsive website, or are using a platform that is not responsive, best talk to your developer. Or me :-).
Of course this may not apply to you. If your target audience is above 45, or business users only who work from an office mostly you will not really need a mobile version. Or run specialized apps suitable for PC only.
But in the case of online selling, especially handmade, art and crafts the main target audience is somewhere between 25 and 40, and more often women. You really want to have a mobile friendly site…
I gave all our websites a responsive coat starting December 2014. 7 were completely redesigned, the 6 I’ve built since then are all mobile friendly. There’s currently only 1 that needs an overhaul, and that one is in the planning. And boy, am I glad that I’ve done them all now I’ve seen the statistics….
